Boilermaking and Welding

The Boilermaking and Welding occupation equips Namibian trainees with the skills needed to take up positions as qualified artisans within the mining, engineering, building and civil industries.

The Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology provides a holistic method of training that integrates practical hands on training with theoretical knowledge and background, shaping individuals into experienced, knowledgeable, well qualified, capable recruits geared to enter the commercial and industrial job market.

The Boilermaking and Welding trade will teach the trainee to completely;

  • Select and prepare all material for metal fabrication.

  • Mark material according to drawings and specifications using the parallel line, radial line and triangulation methods.

  • Cut plates and material to the correct dimensions, desired size and shaping, by using power shear and flame-cutting equipment.

  • Straighten, bend, roll and shape the material to the required angles and curves, by using a power-press.

  • Assemble parts by bolting, riveting or welding.

NIMT offers a four-year training opportunity in the Fitting and Turning trade. Training is based on the apprenticeship modular training approach in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of the industry.

Theoretical tuition in the classrooms follows a combination of Level 1 (1st year) to Level 3 (3rd year) subjects.
